YC Approval Score

A Placeholder Has More Traction

This isn't a pitch — it's a cursor blinking in a void.

The pitch

New pitch 1

"New pitch 1" is what a file gets named before it's ever opened again. There's no problem, no solution, no market, no founder, no traction — not even a buzzword to mock. YC partners have passed on ideas written on napkins, but at least the napkin existed. This makes a blank application look visionary.

What to fix (if you dare)

1

Actually Describe What You're Building

A pitch needs a problem and a solution — ideally ones that exist outside of a document filename. Start with one sentence: 'We help [who] do [what] so they can [outcome].'

2

Tell Us Why You, Why Now

YC bets on founders first. Give them a reason to believe you're the obsessed, uniquely qualified person to solve this specific problem — because right now they don't even know what the problem is.

3

Show Any Signal of Reality

A single user, a waitlist, a prototype screenshot, a revenue number — anything that proves this idea has left your head and touched the real world.

Genuine advice

The best YC applications are embarrassingly specific — a real problem, a real founder, a real number. Come back when "New pitch 1" has a plot twist. 😉
