YC Approval Score

LinkedIn Bio Mistaken For Pitch Deck

You submitted a dating profile to a venture capital firm.

The pitch

I'm a unicorn founder, was a national swimmer and I'm great at baking

YC has funded 4,000+ companies and not one of them was built on butterfly strokes and sourdough. "Unicorn founder" is a label investors give you, not a pitch — and right now the only unicorn here is the imaginary $1B company that doesn't exist yet. Paul Graham wants a problem, a solution, and traction. You gave him a Tinder bio.

What to fix (if you dare)

1

What Problem Are You Actually Solving?

Describe one specific, painful problem you've personally experienced — in one sentence. No adjectives, no backstory about swimming.

2

Where's The Actual Startup?

Name the product, who it's for, and why you're the right person to build it. 'I'm great at baking' is not a moat unless you're disrupting bread.

3

Prove You're Serious, Not Interesting

YC funds determination, not credentials. Show a prototype, a waitlist, one paying customer — anything that proves you've shipped something beyond vibes.

Genuine advice

Your background might genuinely make you a compelling founder — but only if it's *causally connected* to the problem you're solving. Tell us why swimming nationals or baking obsession gave you an insight nobody else has. That's a hook; what you wrote is just a résumé.
